Shawn Young, PhD is director of Music & Entertainment Industry Studies at York College of Pennsylvania. After serving in the U.S. Army Band and working in the music industry as a performer, promoter, and manager, Dr. Young entered the world of higher education and has not looked back. He has published extensively on the topics of countercultural and subcultural theory, music festivals, the politics of popular music, and Christian rock music. His last book, Gray Sabbath: Jesus People USA, the Evangelical Left, and the Evolution of Christian Rock was published by Columbia University Press in 2015. His forthcoming book is titled Marching to the Beat: American Popular Music and the Economics of War. Dr. Young is Vice President of the Music & Entertainment Industry Educators Association (MEIEA) and serves as an education ambassador for the Mechanical Licensing Collective (MLC).
